An Irish Castle Engagement Photoshoot with Christie and Lachlan

This photoshoot holds such a special place in my heart not only because I got to shoot in a beautiful country that I’ve dreamed of visiting my whole life, but because Christie is a dear friend of mine who I only get to see once every couple of years!

Christie and I met in 2016 on a group tour of Europe and quickly became friends. She and I, plus my partner Ryan, bonded over our silly and dorky senses of humor, cultural differences since Ryan and I are Canadian and Christie is Australian, and we dreamed of all the beautiful places we would travel together in the future. Saying goodbye to her at then end of that trip in 2016 was so tough, but I knew it wasn’t our last adventure together.

Fast forward to 2019, Ryan and I met up with Christie for another group tour, this time in Southeast Asia. We had such a lovely time catching up, and Ryan and I got to hear all about this new guy she’d been seeing. Christie gushed about Lachie, and whenever there was down time on our tour she made sure to call him. It was so cute, and I wondered when Ryan and I would be able to meet this guy.

Unfortunately, with travel being restricted for a couple years, it took a while before we saw Christie again. She came to Canada in 2022 to be a bridesmaid in mine and Ryan’s wedding, but unfortunately Lachlan couldn’t join her on that trip. But Christie did bring some exciting news with her, that she and Lachie had gotten engaged and she wanted Ryan and I to be a part of the wedding party. Obviously we couldn’t be in her wedding if we’d never met her husband to be, so we agreed to meet up in 2023 for a road trip through Scotland and Ireland, which is when I was able to capture these images for them!

We took these photos at Dunluce Castle in Northern Ireland, and I have to say this is an absolutely beautiful spot! I don’t think there’s many places more dramatic and romantic than historic ruins, something I wish we had more of in Canada. This castle had plenty of beautiful little nooks for photos, and Christie and Lachlan made perfect models. I think it’s so obvious from the way they look at each other how deeply in love they are, and I’m so glad I got to capture that for them in such an incredible place!
